Learning from the pandemic.

I was facilitating a staff development workshop for a Family Resource Centre a while ago and I asked what had been the impact of the pandemic on the work. The initial response was to highlight the restrictions, the reduced contact with families, with the wider community and with each other – and the stress of course. But as we explored things further the staff identified positives they were taking from the experience – adopting better practices, having a calmer workplace, a greater focus on quality, learning new skills, a realisation that there are other ways of doing the job, and to be less fearful of change.

While no-one has escaped the tremendous upheaval brought about by the COVID 19 crisis, with it’s disruptive, stressful and even tragic consequences, there is learning to be gained within organisations, life-lessons to be learned and an opportunity to move forward and grow through the challenges.
